The Funct|NP Philosophy

Nurse Practitioner–Led Functional Medicine for the Whole-Woman

FunctNP Functional Medicine is a nurse practitioner–owned practice in Meridian, Idaho offering functional care for women across every season — from preconception to postpartum, hormone healing, metabolic balance, and beyond.

We believe symptoms are invitations. They’re not random — they’re rooted.

In stress. In cycles. In nourishment. In timing.

As nurse practitioners, we work within the allopathic model and beyond it — blending advanced labs, root-cause insight, and supportive protocols that don’t just suppress symptoms but actually shift the terrain.

This is care that collaborates. That listens. That completes the circle.

Whether you’re in the thick of it or just beginning to wonder if there’s another way — we meet you where you are, with medicine that honors your body’s rhythms.

    Sadie Carlsen, FNP-C

    Owner, Nurse Practitioner

I’m Sadie — a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with advanced training in functional medicine and a deep-rooted passion for women’s health.

This practice was born from both clinical expertise and personal experience. As a mother of three daughters, I know firsthand what it’s like to feel underserved by women’s healthcare — and I’m committed to building something better, not just for my patients, but for the next generation.

Over the years, I’ve seen too many women I love feel dismissed, rushed, or told their symptoms were “normal.” Whether you’re preparing to conceive, navigating pregnancy, healing after birth, or simply seeking answers along your journey through womanhood, you deserve care that truly sees you.

My approach is root-cause focused, lab-informed, and intentionally paced. I partner with women who are ready to move beyond quick fixes — women who value their bodies, trust their intuition, and are ready to invest in transformative, long-term health.

Outside the clinic, I’m most often with my husband and kids, chasing around my toddler, laughing with my girlfriends, or unwinding in the garden — tending to with the same care and nourishment I offer my clients. (jk, i'm a novice)

This is more than healthcare. It’s a relationship — and I’m honored to walk alongside you.

FAQ

Do you offer primary care services?

No, FunctNP is a functional medicine practice that is a separate complimentary service for your optimal health needs that provides an expanded overview into your health to optimize and address areas of imbalance.

Should I continue to see my primary care provider?

Absolutely yes! Functional medicine is an adjunctive provider but does not replace seeing a primary care provider annually or as directed by your provider.

What is a treatment protocol?

A treatment protocol is a protocol that may involve pharmaceutical grade supplements, prescribed medications  to optimize identified nutrient deficiencies or lab abnormalities.

How long are typical functional protocols?

Typically 3-6 months. During this time, clients are encouraged to make adaptations to diet and lifestyle to ensure habit formation for long term health improvements.

I already take some prescribed medications and supplements, should I stop taking them?

During the initial functional consultation, your provider will review your entire health history and medication list. Medications prescribed by your doctor are not discontinued but you may have additional supplements ordered if able. If discontinuation of previously prescribed medications are desired, that discussion will involve your primary care provider and occur over several visits if clinically appropriate.
