Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
Yes. We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicaid and commercial insurance.
Coverage, copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your specific benefits.
What does “insurance accepted” mean?
We are contracted with multiple insurance plans and submit claims on your behalf.
Insurance determines coverage and patient responsibility. Any remaining balance after insurance processes your claim is the patient’s responsibility.
Will I have a copay or deductible?
Possibly. Copays, deductibles, and coinsurance are determined by your insurance plan.
If you have questions about your specific benefits, we’re happy to help guide you — but ultimate coverage decisions are made by your insurance carrier.
What if my insurance doesn’t cover everything?
If insurance does not fully cover a visit, you may receive a bill for the remaining balance after insurance processes the claim.
Do you accept cash-pay patients?
Yes. We offer transparent cash-pay pricing for patients who prefer not to use insurance or whose plans are out-of-network.
Cash-pay rates are listed at the time of booking.
How does billing work?
We submit claims directly to your primary insurance.
If you have secondary insurance on file, it will be billed automatically after primary insurance processes the claim.
You may receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance before any patient balance is due.
Is functional primary care different from traditional primary care?
Functional primary care includes everything you expect from a primary care practice — with more time, context, and prevention built into each visit.
Care is personalized, comprehensive, and focused on long-term health, not just acute symptoms.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. Many services, labs, and supplements may be eligible for HSA or FSA reimbursement.
We recommend checking with your plan administrator for confirmation.
What is “next-gen functional medicine”?
Next-gen functional medicine blends evidence-based primary care with advanced diagnostics and systems-based thinking.
It looks at how your body’s systems work together — metabolism, hormones, immune health, gut health, and nervous system regulation — to support long-term health, not just symptom relief.
Do you offer gynecologic exams?
Yes. We offer routine gynecologic care, including well-woman exams, cervical cancer screening, and contraceptive counseling, when appropriate.
Care is integrated into your overall health plan rather than treated as a separate silo.
What is vaginal microbiome testing?
In select cases, we may use advanced vaginal microbiome testing to evaluate imbalances, recurrent symptoms, or unexplained inflammation.
These tests look at the vaginal ecosystem as a whole — including bacteria, yeast, and markers of inflammation — rather than testing for a single organism alone.
Testing is not routine and is only recommended when clinically appropriate. Results are always interpreted in context with symptoms, exam findings, and overall health.
Can you send Referrals?
Yes. As a primary care practice, we coordinate and send referrals when specialty care, imaging, or procedures are needed.
At FunctNP, our goal is to make your care as connected and efficient as possible, whether that means referring to gynecology, endocrinology, imaging centers, or other specialists.
We work closely with local providers to ensure your labs, notes, and care plans travel with you, so you’re never starting over or repeating the same story twice.
Do you offer advanced functional testing?
Yes — we offer a full range of advanced functional labs, including hormone, adrenal, gut, micronutrient, and inflammation testing.
However, at FunctNP, testing isn’t our first step.
We begin by understanding your story, your nervous system, and your current physiology through a detailed intake and conventional lab work.
From there, we layer in advanced testing only when it adds clarity or direction, never as a blanket starting point.
This intentional approach helps us prioritize what your body actually needs and prevents unnecessary cost or overwhelm.
Do you prescribe medications and supplements?
Yes. As a certified family nurse practitioner, I can prescribe both medications and supplements when clinically appropriate.
At FunctNP, we take a balanced approach. Prescriptions are used when they’re the best tool for relief or prevention, and supplements are chosen for precision, not excess.
Our goal is to support your body with the right intervention at the right time , whether that’s a prescription, targeted nutrient, or lifestyle change.
Insurance benefits and coverage are determined by individual plans.
Acceptance of insurance does not guarantee coverage.
